USPS Announces Temporary Rate Changes for Holiday Shipping, Effective 10/2/2022

The USPS recently announced temporary rate changes for selected shipping services during the upcoming holiday season.

These prices are seasonal, and are scheduled to take effect from October 2, 2022 through January 22, 2023. Like last year’s temporary rate change in October, only certain shipping services will be affected, including both retail (post office) and commercial (discounted) pricing for the specific services.

Key Points for the USPS Holiday Shipping Updates:

Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, USPS Retail Ground, and First-Class Package Service are some of the affected services.
Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express Flat Rate envelopes and boxes will see an increase of $.95 for retail and $.75 for commercial.
USPS Retail Ground, First-Class Package Service Retail and Parcel Select Ground will see increases across all zones and weights. These will range from $.30 to $5.85 for retail, and $.25 to $5.50 for commercial.

The Post Office said the temporary price increase will keep the agency competitive with other shippers — many of which also typically add surcharges during peak seasons — and help cover the extra costs that are anticipated during the peak holiday season.
